The "Comfy, Cozy Cowl"...

Below, a shot of the back of the cowl and how the seam worked up.  I join into the top of the chain 2....
NOT counting it as a stitch.



Above, the "Comfy, Cozy Cowl" pairs beautifully with the "Heyyy Baby Beanie"


Below, the yarn I used for the white cowl.  Lion Brand's Comfy Cotton Blend.  Above, I used Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn in "Citrus Punch"



Hook: 5 - 5.5mm... I crochet tight so I used a 5.5mm hook

Yarn: Lion Brand's "Comfy Cotton Blend", one cake, or any weight four yarn.

Abbreviations:
ch= chain
dc= double crochet
hdc= half double crochet
sp= space
st= stitch
sts= stitches
FP/BP= Front Post/Back Post

Stitches used:
double crochet, half double crochet, half double crochet in the 3rd loop....video for how to complete this stitch is found below...




Measurements:
11 inches wide and 9 inches long

Pattern:

1. ch 90. Join-being sure that chain is not twisted.
2. ch 2. dc around. join. (Check to makes sure that items, when laying flat, is 11 inches wide).
3. ch 2. dc around. join.
4. ch 2. dc around. join.
5. ch 2. Beginning with front post dc in first st, alternate FP/BP dc in each st around. join.
6. ch 2. in dc, work front post crochet in each st around. join.
7. ch 2. hdc around. join.
8. ch 2. hdc in the 3rd loop of each st around. join.
9. ch 2. hdc in the 3rd loop of each st around. join. 
10. ch 2. hdc in the 3rd loop of each st around. join.
11. ch 2. dc in the 3rd loop of each st around. join.
12. ch 2. Alternate FP/BP dc, around. join.
13. ch 2. in dc, work front post crochet in each st around. join.
14. ch 2. hdc around. join.
15. ch 2. hdc in the 3rd loop of each st around. join.
16. ch 2. hdc in the 3rd loop of each st around. join.
17. ch 2. hdc in the 3rd loop of each st around. join.
18. ch 2. dc in the 3rd loop of each st around. join.
19. ch 2. Alternate FP/BP dc, around. join.
20. ch 2. in dc, work front post crochet in each st around. join.
21. ch 2. dc around. join.
22. ch 2. dc around. join.
23-31. ch 2. Alternate FP/BP dc, around. join.

The length is your preference. I used the instructions above and got 9 inches in length.

The "Trekking Messy Bun Beanie"

Pattern is worked "top down" with a 30 chain joined to start.

Hat is 7in wide and 9in long.

Hook: 6mm

Yarn: weight 4 yarn.  Lion Brand's Wool-Ease, Red Heart super saver and Caron Simply Soft were all used in making this beanie

Stitches used: double crochet, front post half double crochet, back post half double crochet, crochet in the 3rd loop, half double crochet and double crochet.

Abbreviations:
dc- double crochet
hdc- half double crochet
fp/bp- front post/back post crochet
ch- chain
st- stitch
sts- stitches

Pattern...

1. chain 30. make sure not to twist and join with starting ch to form a loop.
2. ch 2. dc around. join (ch 2 does not count as stitch) 30 sts
3. ch 2. in dc, increase every 3 sts. join. 40 sts
4. ch 2. in dc, increase every 4 sts. join. 50 sts
5. ch 2. in dc, increase every 5 sts. join. 60 sts
(60 sts around for a child, below, 70 sts for an adult)

above, we have 60 sts around.
below, we have 70 sts around.


If your tension is on the looser side and your getting measurements bigger than 7in across for the beanie done with 70 sts around, please restart with a 5mm hook.
If this does not work, work the beanie to only 60 sts around.

6. ch 2. in dc, increase every 6 sts. DO NOT do 2 dc in very last st of round. join. 69 sts
7. ch 2. in hdc, hdc in each st around. join.
8. ch 2. in hdc, crochet into the 3rd loop of each st. join.

9. ch 2. in hdc, crochet into the 3rd loop of each st. join.
10. ch 2. in hdc, *fp crochet into the first st, bp crochet into the 2nd st, and bp crochet into the 3rd st* repeat around. join.
11. ch 2. in hdc, *fp crochet into the first st, bp crochet into the 2nd st, and bp crochet into the 3rd st* repeat around. join.
12. ch 2. in hdc, crochet in each st around. join.  
13. ch 2. in hdc, crochet into the 3rd loop of each st. join.
14. ch 2. in hdc, crochet into the 3rd loop of each st. join.
15. ch 2. in hdc, crochet in each st around. join. 60 sts
16. ch 2. in hdc, crochet into the 3rd loop of each st. join.
17. ch 2. in hdc, alternate fp/bp crochet in each st. join.
18. repeat step 17.
19. repeat step 17.
20. repeat step 17. 
21. repeat step 17.
22. repeat step 17.
23. repeat step 17.
24. repeat step 17.
