The "Miss Shell" messy bun beanie!










Above we have some of the beanies made with the pattern below.  

This beanie is worked from top to bottom.



Miss Shell Messy Bun Beanie Pattern

Hook: 6mm
Yarn: Weight 4, Cotton/Acrylic mix or Acrylic yarn.

Abbreviations
ch: chain
st: stitch
sts: stitches
HDC: half double crochet
DC: double crochet
FP: front post
BP: back post

Stitches used
half double crochet, double crochet, half double crochet in 3rd loop, front post half double crochet,
back post half double crochet.

1.  ch 40. Join.
2. ch 2. HDC in each chain stitch around. Join. =40 sts
3. ch 2. Increase, in HDC, every 4th stitch. Join. =50 sts
4. ch 2. HDC in every st around. Join. =50 sts
5. ch 2. Increase, in HDC, every 5th st. Join. =60 sts
6. ch 2. DC around in every st. Join. =60 sts
7. ch 2. HDC in every st around. Join. =60 sts
8. ch 2. In HDC, crochet every st around in the 3rd loop. Join. 
9. ch 2. In HDC, crochet every st around in the 3rd loop. Join.
10. ch 2. In HDC, crochet every st around in the 3rd loop. Join.
11. ch 2. In HDC, crochet every st around in the 3rd loop. Join.
The shells:
12. ch 2. In same space as ch 2 do 5 DC.  Skip four sts, in 5th st do 5 DC.  Continue this around.  You should end with four spaces... ch 1. Join at top of first shell...


13. ch 2. In same space as ch 2 do 5 DC.  5 more DC at top of next shell....


Continue around doing 5 DCs at top of each shell. When last shell completed, ch 1, join at top of first shell in row.
14. ch 2. Repeat row 13.




15. ch 2. HDC in same space as ch 2. HDC in next 2 sts. HDC in space between shells. *HDC in next 4 sts. HDC in space between shells* Repeat around. Join.
16. ch 2. In HDC crochet into the 3rd loop, around. Join.
17. ch 2. In HDC crochet into the 3rd loop, around. Join.
18. ch 2. In HDC crochet into the 3rd loop, around. Join.
19. ch 2. In HDC crochet into the 3rd loop, around. Join.
The brim....
20. ch 2. Front post HDC in first st, Back post HDC in next st. Continue around, alternating FP/BP HDC. Join.
21. Repeat row 20
22. Repeat row 20
23. Repeat row 20

I crocheted the brim to be as long as I needed to cover MY ears. Please feel free to adjust this to the length of your forehead and ears by trying on the beanie before knotting off and cutting away the excess yarn.
